The USA Baseball Tournament of Stars (TOS) is made up of 80 of the nation's best ballplayers that are international age-eligible for 18U National Team consideration (born in 1999 or later). Official invites for the tournament will be sent from USA Baseball beginning in February and continuing through the spring. USA Baseball and Major League Baseball cover all costs associated with the event which includes players' travel, lodging (USA Baseball Host Family Program) and uniforms. TOS participants form the primary pool of talent from which USA Baseball will select its 18U National Team to represent the United States at the 2017 World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) U-18 World Cup in Thunder Bay, Canada later this September. The 18U National Team program has a storied history of success which includes winning gold at seven of the last eight international 18U events. Alumni of the 18U National Team include recently elected Hall of Famer John Smoltz as well as No.1 overall picks in the MLB First-Year Player Draft -- Joe Mauer (2001), Delmon Young (2003), Justin Upton (2005), Luke Hochevar (2006), Bryce Harper (2010), and Mickey Moniak (2016). Additionally, 2012 American League Rookie of the Year and 2014 AL Most Valuable Player Mike Trout played in the 2008 TOS and 2012 National League Rookie of the Year Bryce Harper played in the 2009 TOS. The typical TOS player is highly motivated to be the next person added to this esteemed list.
